Are pocket depth checks accurate?

Great question! Every dental professional does a pocket check as part of a comprehensive gum health assessment.

It is done very gently with only 20-25g pressure.

Although various methods and instruments can be used to standardise this check between clinicians, between offices and between visits of the same person, sadly it is almost impossible to be perfectly consistent.

For that reason, it is considered to be only one of the indicators of whether the disease is active in that area of your mouth or not, not the only indicator
