Question

Does smoking really matter that much?

Answer

It might sound “doom and gloom” but here’s what we know about smoking:

It trebles the chance of you losing teeth compared to others who do not smoke.

Smoking means your gums won’t look as inflamed as they otherwise would, so it can hide the condition even more at the start.

When you receive professional treatment for the gum condition, smokers’ gums respond less favourably than others who don’t.

Smokers tend to (but don’t always) get more bone loss around front teeth and upper teeth can be worse affected than lower teeth.
