Question
I got an electric toothbrush and my gums have shrunk away. Why do my teeth look longer?
Answer
Like everything, “it depends on who is using it” but hundreds of studies and trials have proven that for most people, electric toothbrushes are more effective at removing plaque.
Although we can’t comment on the specifics of your condition, generally speaking if your gums appear to have changed in a short space of time, it is unlikely to be irreversible gum recession.
Assuming that you had a gum condition such as Gingivitis beforehand, it is much more likely that as inflammation switches off, your gum health has improved progressively. A little like a pimple on your skin as a teenager, when inflammation settles the tissue shrinks and changes shape. This would be a good indication that things are improving!
