Is gum disease common?
Absolutely. It’s why the Gum Disease Guide is here. It is the 6th most common disease in the world.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that over 47% of adults aged 30 years and older have some form of periodontal disease.
The disease risk increases with age.
Gum pockets over 4mm affect nearly 50% of the population of the world. Pockets over 6mm (more severe levels of the condition) affect around 1 in 10 people.
Millions around the world have no idea they even have the condition.
Gum disease is often ignored by people who suffer from it because until it is in its more severe stages (loose teeth, splaying or drifting teeth, bad breath), it is mostly silent.
It’s worth noting that children can also develop gingivitis, so it’s important to look after their oral health as well.
Some pets can also get gum disease too!
