Question

Why do you often say ‘disruption’ of plaque not removal of plaque? What’s the difference?

Answer

The secret in stabilising gum problems is almost always to start with removing the trigger – plaque bacteria.

However, the other secret is that we never expect all plaque bacteria to be removed. That is nearly impossible!

Instead, amongst dental professionals we know that “disruption” of plaque is the key.

Simply, the most damaging types of bacteria are those which establish themselves only once the less harmful pioneers are left undisturbed. So disrupting that sticky ‘biofilm’ daily is essential – the mini ecosystems then don’t have the chance to establish themselves and harm you.
